Position Summary

The Director, Enterprise Architecture is the key influence on GreatAmerica's technology platforms. This role links the business mission, strategy, and processes to its technology strategy. The Director, Enterprise Architecture captures this using architectural models (or views) that show how the current and future needs of GreatAmerica will be met in an efficient, sustainable, extensible, and adaptable manner.This role assists business and IT leaders in making investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. As a member of the IT leadership team, this role will work closely with all areas of IT to ensure future visioning, planning and delivery meet the expectations committed to. The Director, Enterprise Architecture must evangelize key frameworks essential in delivering future solutions; Business Capabilities and Architectural Tenets. This resource will help shape and understand GreatAmerica's strategic vision and business processes. To this end, strong relationships with GreatAmerica business customers, other teams within IT and our outside technology partners is essential.


Responsibilities


Strategy & Planning




+ Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture to effectively support the business strategy.



+ Supports all architectural disciplines and champions' architectural initiatives.



+ Establishes and oversees the architecture team, including the recruitment, development, training and maintenance of the architecture staff.



+ Leads programs to define, develop, and maintain, governance of enterprise architecture across the organization.



+ Leads the EA review board and ensures that the solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models.



+ Aligns architecture strategy with business goals.



+ Develops and communicates architectural policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.



+ Promotes the EA process, outcomes, and results to the organization and senior leadership, including Business Capabilities and Architectural Tenets.



+ Provides strategic consultation to business and IT leaders.



+ Works with business leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy.



+ Consults with project teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.



+ Directs the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends.



+ Works with senior leadership to approve allocation of budget to meet architectural initiatives critical to business/mission success.



+ Provide appropriate succession planning and cross-training for the team



Operational Management




+ Owns the Application Rationalization process and tools.



+ Works on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains.



+ Leads the EA governance processes.



+ Collaborates with project management and IT leaders to ensure progress towards architectural alignment with project goals and requirements.



+ Participate in budget processes to ensure objectives are achieved within fiscal expectations.



+ Support and participate in Steering Committee and Prioritization Committee meetings, as necessary.



+ Approves the tools and components used within the enterprise.



+ Approves modification of the enterprise architecture to accommodate project needs.



+ Participates in maintaining the Service Catalog to ensure consistency with business expectations.




Position Qualifications



Position Requirements


Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. MBA is a plus.


Experience: Seeking 15 or more years of IT and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems life cycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations. Leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders is required. Requires exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments. Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting is required along with a working knowledge of the ITIL framework. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and information security practices is desired.

+ Willingness to travel to industry events as well as customer visits and attend events that cultivate relationships (e.g. Trade shows, conferences, etc.)
